You can’t keep a good geek down – Steve Jobs back at work

June 23, 2009

Nothing can keep a good geek down, be it cancer, liver transplant or anything you can think of, Steve Jobs keeps coming back. Steve Jobs, 54, Apple’s co-founder and Chief executive is said to have returned to work six months after his medical leave. Jobs is said to have had a liver transplant which must have gone very well because he is said to be expected back at his desk at the end of June.

Steve Jobs has had series of health issues over the years, In 2004, Mr Jobs was treated for pancreatic cancer, in 2008 there were fears that the cancer had returned when he appeared at a major Apple event looking thin and gaunt. In January 2009, Mr Jobs revealed that he was being treated for a “hormone imbalance”. Later Jobs told his staff that his medical problems were more complex than first thought and he would take six months off work to concentrate on his health.
The Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend that Mr Jobs underwent a liver transplant over two months ago. It is predicted that Mr Jobs will stay on as chief executive officer of Apple on a part-time basis with a view to moving on to become chairman of the company.
Jobs once gave up the post of CEO of Apple for some years, his absence saw a decline in apples fortunes which seem to rise again once Jobs came back into the help and introduce new innovative products to the Apple Mac offering including the very successful and popular music player, iPod.

Birmingham Half Marathon for Amnesty International

August 8, 2008

My friend Nick Byng invited me to join him in running Birmingham half marathon on the 26th of October, I accepted his invitation and registered, that was the easy part. The challenging bit is to be fit enough to run 13 miles, I am doing quite well so far, I am sure I will manage it, I will try avoiding breaking the world record for the person who run 13 miles at the slowest possible time.

I am hoping to use the marathon to raise money for Amnesty international, you can sponsor me by donating to Amnesty International via this page.

While you are here, why not visit the page Nick put up for his own run and sponsor him as well if possible.

I hope to be running the Birmingham half marathon again this year. I have been training with Hereford Running club, wye valley runners

HMRC lost database containing half of UK’s population data

November 20, 2007

Her Majesty Revenues and Customs (HMRC) had lots two disk containing nearly half of UK’s population sensitive benefits data. The disks, which are said to be password, protected but not encrypted were lot in internal HMRC post data safe.
The chancellor Alistair Darling said there was no evidence the data had fallen into criminal hands – but urged people to monitor their bank accounts.

his gross incompetence by a UK government department would be and excellent addition to the armory of anti national identity card campaigners as they have always argued that the government does not have a good track record of keeping confidential and sensitive.
In a similar data security laps a few months ago, sensitive information about junior doctors was made available accidentally to anyone browsing the NHS website that had the data on it.

blogupper.com and manhattan rip off service

August 11, 2007

Mahattan Service or perhaps Manhattan rip off services is a better description of the services offered by the above site if business at Mahattan Service is conducted the way he seem to run the so called blogupper.com which is nothing but a con to fleece you out of money.  blogupper.com is supposed to be a blogs directory, but instead of paying to have your site reviewed like most decent paid directory, blogupper asks you to ‘donate’, the reason for this being the fact that if you donate using PayPal you cannot dispute the payment afterwards, this naturally is the best payment option for a con man to trick unsuspecting victims.

Next time you are out promoting your website, should you come across any of the above site, you want to run a mile.
