For thousands of small clubs and associations across the UK, online presence is absolutely crucial this days. Most organisations tends to have a website but maintaining and updating it can be a problem sometime, whether dues to lack of fund to hire a dedicated webmaster to look after the site or the limited ability of club members who volunteer to maintain a club or associations website. A good example of a club that recently break the above vicious circle is Wye Valley Runners, a Hereford Running club.

Wye Valley Runner is the largest running club in Herefordshrie with over 300 members. Their website Wye Valley Runners was one of the quickest ways of getting information across to members. The site which was hard code when if was first created was recently transformed into a much easier to manage and update website with the us or WordPress with the addition of mods that makes the site an effective Contents Management Systems making updating and add new information to the website much easier.

The new CMS powered website now makes publishing Wye Valley Runners members and club activities much easier with a magazine style wordpress theme which was specially customised to make the latest articles posted to the site display on the homepage. I think it is the mark of a poor website and indeed club to criticize an other club. The blatant attack against the Hereford Couriers in the proceeding article does not show Wye Valley in a good light regardless of how many members it has. I feel personally insulted by the comments. I will be contacting Hereford Couriers to encourage them to complain to the athletics association. I will also be personally complaining to Wye valley and demanding a Public Apology. Sunday sees the start of the new cross-country season where the hardship of the weather sees every one united regardless of winning and ability. Of course there is friendly banter but what has been written is malicious and will lead to bad feelings on the races.

    Mike,
Thanks for your comment, which you are naturally entitled to, just like I am entitled to my own opinion which i expressed in my blog. Please note that this is my personal blog and not Wye Valley Runners’ blog, I do not speak for Wye Valley Runners, just expressing my own personal opinion which could be right or could be wrong. However any of my assertions are factually inaccurate, I am happy to make necessary corrections.
I really do not see why this should lead to bad feelings ….. its common knowledge in the running circles in Hereford that the Hereford Couriers places a lot of emphasis on prospective members ability before he or she is allowed to run with the club. I was informed (my at least 3-4 runners) that if you are not up to a certain standard and you try to join Couriers, you will be pointed in the directions of Wye Valley Runners. This sort of makes the Couriers appear to less able runners (like me) to be an elitist club (nothing wrong with that if that is the kind of club you are).

I agree that everyone has the right to an opinion, however the comments refering to Hereford Couriers are on “Wye Valley New Website” and therefore read as The Cubs opinion.
I know that this is not the case.
Personal opinions can be made and should be clearly labelled as such.
This silly situation should not have been created and is not in the spirit of the friendly competition that has existed between these clubs for many years.
I hope that the comments are ignored, that the whole thing can be forgotten to allow the both clubs to continue move forward in the manner they see fit.

I think there is one crucial thing you seem to have overlooked, this website is called Temi.co.uk, its my personal website, look on the about us/contact us section of the site, how else can the contents be labeled as my personal opinion more than I have already done?

Just like hundreds of thousands of bloggers if not million in UK, I post what I like or do not like or happen across on my blog, if I post something about your product or your services that you disagree with, you can reply to the post and put your side of the argument on my website. I post on a wide ranging topics from Wolfram Alpha (http://www.temi.co.uk/bing-harnesses-the-power-of-wolfram-alpha-to-enhance-search-results/) to Hereford Couriers. Why can you not differentiate my personal website/blog post from Wye Valley Runners?

I think its rather sad that you and others from Hereford Couriers seem to be harassing the folks at Wye Valley Runners, I am also beginning to fell harassed as well. You are supposed to be a running club not a mafioso boss who one dare not speak about. Would you be kind enough to just leave me alone please.

Wye Valley Runners secretary Dave Sherwood asked me to remove this post, I pointed out to him that it is my personal opinion, I have the right to express it, neither him nor Hereford Couriers have the right to ask me to remove my personal post, I did not post the article on behalf of Wye Valley Runners. Apparently you and other from Hereford Couriers has been calling saying all sorts to the Wye Valley Runners about my post….. I don’t know what more to say but that will leave people to draw their own conclusions.

I do not want to get into a stupid arguement on this. I am not very IT orientated however the top of this blog is called “Temi webmaster blog” also listed as “wye valley new website”.
It is listed and acessed via “Wye valley new website”.
I do not understand the technicalities and your definations.
Personally you have only done damage to the relationship between clubs and not in the sporting spirit. I must point out that I personnally have only spoken to Dave and Harry on this subject.
As you say you are entitled to your opinion, I have drawn my own conclusions and I feel I will waste no more of my time on this subject or you.

Got something to say?
