New gTLD Domain Name Extension – Now Cash & Carry

Be a domain registrar
If you have always dream of having your own gTLD, a dream that was virtually impossible before, your prayers have been answered because it is now possible to have your own gTLD, so technically, I cam have my very own .temi domain extension name space. This landmark in domain name gTLD naming is made possible by the The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), members of ICANN voted to allow this free for all in gTLD creation.

From next year, provided you have £114,000 to bung ICANN, have technical capacity to run your own TLD including policy to protect trademark and copyright owners interest, you could be allowed to run your own gTLD. The new deregulation by ICANN is sure to increase the number of existing gTLD domain name extension far beyond the 22 that currently exist. One should spare though for the owner of .xxx gTLD domain name who campaign and spent tons of money to have the domain extension approved by ICAANN, they could have waited till next year and get it on the cheap.

Before you start raiding your piggy bank in the hope that you will fnd £114,000 to start your own gTLD you should consider the cost of putting a proposal together or ICANN, setting up the infrastructure, having an abuse department that run 24-7 , 365 days a year and you will realise that ICANN fee is probably the lower of the cost you need to think of if you want to run your own gTLD.

.UK domain name extension hits 8 million

Nominet, the UK domain name registration authority said .UK domain name registration reached the milestone of 8 million in November 2009. After .com, .UK is the most popular domain name extension in the world, this was helped mainly by the fact that unlike most country level domain name extensions, .UK does not require you to jump through the kind of hoops countries like say Australia requires you to jump through to register a .com.au domain name extension.
Some people think that Nominet policy of making .uk domain easy to register for both UK and non-UK company is a good thing while other disagree, especially the part about making it easy for non-UK based company to register .uk domain extension. Whatever site of the argument you sit on, the .UK domain name continues to grow faster than web address of any country of similar size to UK.
