Register_Global in Web Hosting is on or off better?

Once of the down side of having your website hosted on a shared web hosting space is the lack of control over server side modules you may need for application you want to install in your website for example, some application requires you to have register_global in PHP set to on, but most web hosting companies prefers to set register_global to off for security reasons.
There are a number of ways to run such application without exposing you hosting company to security risks.
