Changing a Web Hosting Service Provider – 2

March 8, 2007 · Print This Article

The overall goal of any transition on a website, whether it is a transition to a new server, or a new domain name, or a new owner, is that it occurs as smoothly as possible. Ideally, the users visiting the site will be unaware that a change is taking place or has taken place. If at all possible, it can be a good idea to post a notice on the main page of the website notifying customers about the change, and letting them know that the transition is supposed to occur seamlessly but that they should feel free to contact the webmaster if they experience any difficulties. This is not only a nice courtesy for customers and users, but also a good way to ascertain that everything went smoothly from the average user’s perspective.

Once a website owner has made a decision to definitely switch to a new web hosting service provider, there is still much research that needs to be done. First, the webmaster should compile a short list of the things that he or she really likes about the service with the current web host, so that he/she can make sure that the new host has those same features or capabilities. Secondly, the webmaster needs to be certain that the new host has both the bandwidth space and the support functions that will ensure the website’s flawless operation after the switch. After all, changing to a new service provider can be exhausting for both the user and the website owner, and no one wants to be forever apologizing for their server.
