Changing a Web Hosting Service Provider – 1
March 6, 2007 · Print This Article
Making a decision to change a web hosting service provider can be an important one for any website owner, particularly if the site is connected to a small business or other type of incoming revenue stream. Before making the final choice, it is important for the webmaster to consider a few questions, such as the reasons for the move, the advantages and disadvantages, and finally (if the decision is made to go ahead and change service providers) what to look for in a new host so that the website will not have to change hosts again in the foreseeable future.
The most common reason for a website to change service providers is that the site has grown significantly in popularity, and the current web server (often a free or low cost server) does not have the bandwidth to handle the increased website traffic. If this is the reason for the service provider switch, it is imperative to consider the site’s future growth patterns when choosing the new service provider, so that the same problem does not keep re-occurring. Less frequently, a website owner may choose to change web hosts because the site’s current host does not have the features which the webmaster feels would be most beneficial to the site, or because the current web hosting is on a shared server, and there are frequent service interruptions which cause problems with customers and users.
