Google pagerank algo change – Link currency devaluation

Posted by on Oct 25, 2007 in Website Marketing | 0 comments

For quite sometime now, Google pagerank or PR as its called for short has been one of the main ways to evaluate the quality of a website page. Thought there tons of other factors that can determine how valuable or otherwise a web page is but over time Google pagerank has become the main criteria used by some webmasters. This lead to the websites and web pages with high PR becoming hot commodity, links are bough and sold based on a site PR. Google does discourage this trade in PR, arguing that artificial link that could directly or indirectly influence a site SERP should not be engaged in. This does not really deter link buyers and sells. Website and webpages with high PR keeps fetching premium price. Since the last few weeks, indeed few months, high profile website that sell links from their website seem to have been penalised for doing so by having their PR reduced by several points. Some notable previously high PR and high profile sites that seem to have been penalised includes: * Statcounter (from 10 to 6) * Engadget (from 7 to 5) * AutoBlog (from 6 to 4) * Problogger (from 6 to 4) * Search Engine Journal (from 7 to 4) * Quick Online Tips (from 6 to 3) * Search Engine Roundtable (from 7 to 4) * Weblog Tools Collection (from 6 to 4) iWT forums went from PR6 to PR4 Alive Directory went from PR7 to PR4 Haabaa Directory web directory went from PR6 to PR5 Search Engine Journal went from PR7 to PR4 Search Engine Roundtable went from PR7 to...

Site Indexation

Websites are effective methods of popularizing products and services offered by various companies. Mere creation of attractive and informative websites is not enough and one has to promote the website to attract appropriate and adequate traffic towards the site. One of the possible ways to promote a website is to enlist the web page with a search engine. Just as a phone number should be listed in the local telephone directory, so also, pages of a website has to be indexed with a search engine to attract the right amount of visitors and enhance one’s business. Promoting a site with a search engine is an ongoing process and the first step is indexation. Indexation of a website means that the website is visited by various search engines, which then analyze the contents of your site and then list it in their databases under the appropriate category. Inclusion of your website in a search engine’s database is very important for attracting the correct visitors both in terms of quality as well as quantity and this ultimately results in increasing business opportunities. In other words, indexation means that when someone does a search then your website would be considered if it was indexed with the search engine. How do you define quality backlinks?

Posted by on Feb 18, 2007 in Website Marketing | 0 comments

A memeber of iWeb Tool Forums asked and a very interesting question; how do you define what high quality backlinks are? I have come across this question in the past, I always find it quite difficult to answer so I offerred the following as a possible answer to the question. Well, not all sites are created equally as you know, I will use examples to illustrate what is and what is not a high quality back link, this are not definitive but its a guide. 1. link from so called authority site for example a link from www.oanda.com (PR9) is of higher quality than a link from say my blogs (www.temi.co.uk) 2. A link from my blogs, is of higher quality than a link from PR1 link farm. 3. A link from PR1 link far is of higher quality than a link from PR0 website 4. A link from PR1 website with 5 outgoing links is a better link from a link from PR1 website with 100 outgoing links. 5. A link from PR1 website with several strong sites pointing to it is better than a link from PR2 website without quality backlinks As you can see, the variable that comes to play are diverse and interesting. So if you have site “A” with over 100 links from PR1 and PR2 sites  and site “B” with 5 incoming links but all 5 links are from sites of Oanda.com calibre, site “B” with fewer but more high quality links will rank better than site “A” with poor quality but many more links. The concept is quite simple, all the pages of the web of the website are identified by each letter of the alphabet, you can buy a link for one pound from a page that corresponds with the same letter of your website name. There is an element of bidding in the process though. You can choose to pay more than a pound for your link, in which case you link will be placed higher on the page than the link that cost one...
