Search Engine Marketing on Mobile Phone – Abundance of low hanging fruits?
January 29, 2011
Generate more traffic for your site by creating mobile device pages
The ever increasing blurring of the line between PC and Mobile phone seem to be making a bountiful of low hanging fruits that no longer exist on search engine marketing for the PC platform available once more.
When searching the Internet on a smart phone using Google, a mobile phone icon appears against listing for websites that are mobile phone friendly (this means the site has a version that is optimised for mobile phones). Even if the site is not ranked very highly, the fact that it has this mobile phone icon automatically draws attention to it, way before more highly placed listing without the mobile compatibility icon.
Working with a client that operates a network of online dating website including countryside dating, some of their website was made smart phone friendly, and investment that seem to start rewarding the client with excellent ROI withing weeks of putting the mobile version of her sites online.
To encourage webmasters who are thinking of making their website mobile phone compatible but do now know how to go about it, a quick rough and ready post about creating a mobile phone version of your website follows with some examples taken from naughty dating site, one of the sites we made mobile phone compatible for the aforementioned client.
This single step by step guide will show you how to create web pages for mobile devices, start from first detecting which mobile device has arrived on your website and then redirecting the device to the page you have created for it.
A. Creating a mobile phone compatible version of a page or website.
At the present time, you cannot create a single universal page for all smartphones and PDAs. The devices will be able to view the page but it will not display correctly, mobile device user will have to use the zoom function to adjust the pages, so that there will be not need to use the zoom function, sadly, you have to create one page for each device. For the purpose of this article, we will treat all mobile devices manufactured after 2007 as one (this includes Android, Blackberry, Palm, Galaxy etc) but iPhone will be treated differently (because of screens size/resolution).
1.Create HTML pages for mobile phones
Creating HTML page for mobile phone is like creating HTML pages for the web but you need to bear the following points in mind:
- page WHIDTH maximum size to be 200px
- page fonts size should be from small, x-small to xx-small
- use less images and make the images much smaller than the size you would use for the web.
Create homepage of your mobile HTML site and call it index1.php (of course you can call it any other name you like).
2. Create the HTML page for iPhone
Here are things to bear in mind when creating HTML for iPhone.
- page WHIDTH maximum size to be 700px
- page BODY font size to be set to 100%
- page fonts size are prefect if you use font size between 24px to 36px
- use a few images as possible.
You can call the homepage for your iPhone version index2.php
3. Create HTML HOME PAGE for the site mobile version
This will be the homepage for all mobile devices. This will be the page mobile devices that visits you regular website from a PC will be redirected to. This page will also sort the mobile devices for example detecting iPhone and sending it to the pages designed for iPhon and detecting Android and other devices like it and sending them the the appropriate pages.
- create an empty php page
- add the content below to the page:
<?php
$user_agent = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];
$iphone = preg_match(‘/ipod/i’,$user_agent)||preg_match(‘/iphone/i’,$user_agent);
?>
<?php if($iphone == ’1′) { include(‘index2.php’); } else { include(‘index1.php’); }
?>
- save the page as index.php
4. Edit you main website home page(in our case index.php) and add the below code to the top of the page:
<?php
include(‘mobile_device_detect.php’);
mobile_device_detect(true,true,true,true,true,true,true,’http://mobile.YOURSITE.co.uk/’,false);
?>
5. Download mobile_device_detect.php script attached, upload it to your main site, to the same folder with your main home page (in our case index.php) and you are done.

SEO & Site Promotion – Old Media Still Alive
April 29, 2010

If the old media such as TV, radio, newspaper, billboards and other can speak, they will be entitled to quote Mark Twain’s words “the report of my death was an exaggeration”at their new media counterpart such as Twitter, Facebook etc.
At the American elections which ushered in Barak Obama as the president of USA, new media was said to played a pivotal role. The current election campaign in UK was expected to be fought using Twitter and other new media tool, so far, the only media that has made significant impact was on of the old one; TV.
Moving on from the minimal impact new media is having on politics to good old fashion online promotion. Nokia are currently investing a lot of money in marketing music phone such as Nokia X6, a phone/music player position to take on iPhone, so far traditional promotion methods such as good old fashion bribery in the form of give away has been used and it is succeeding more than the promotion using SEO and new media tool.
To create more buzz online for the Nokia X6, UK webmaster forum have organised a contest where the Nokia X6 , the 32 GB version plus a years subscription to unlimited music download is being given away free of charge. You can find more information on this offer at UK webmaster forum.
The example of the limited impact of new media on the 2010 UK general election, the reliance of Nokia promotion mainly on old promotion tactics and many other example like that gives the impression that while the Internet and the new media it spurn are very important today, perhaps the story about their impact on changing our behaviour are a bit exaggerated.

Search Engine Marketing Services in Glasgow
Like most small businesses across the UK, for small businesses in Glasgow, search engine optimisation and marketing is crucial to a successful Internet marketing strategy. Given the fact that small businesses are not the richest companies in the land, being able to market their product and services using cost effective SEO is of utmost importance. If you need SEO Glasgow , there are dozens of ways to achieve high ranking in search engine result pages, three of the most popular ways includes:
* DIY search engine optimisation.
* Out sourcing your search engine optimisation.
* Using your local search engine optimisation consultant.
There are advantages and disadvantages in each of the aforementioned ways of get your website to number one position in leading search engines but using your local search engine optimisation expert is certainly the best option. A brief information about each of the three options will show why small businesses in Glasgow looking to get excellent SERP results need to choose a Glaswegian SEO consultant over say an Indian SEO consultant or indeed a search engine optimisation consultant from London for that matter.
DIY Search Engine Optimisation
You can find an awful lot of information on how to optimise your website online, some of these information are excellent, others are outdated and some are outright dangerous to the success of your website. It is a very bad idea to optimise your site yourself using some of the DIY SEO manuals found online because some optimisation techniques advocated by some SEO experts will actually get your site banned by leading search engines. Optimisation technique such as cloaking, keyword stuffing and other black hat SEO methods which you can easily find information about are not good for your site ranking in search engines.
Outsourcing your Search Engine Optimisation
It is quite popular to outsource SEO this days. India is the most popular outsourcing destination. One of the advantages companies that outsource to India gives as their main reason is cost, it is generally assumed that outsourcing to India is cheaper.
One thing most companies that outsource their SEO do not realise it the dictum that says, if you buy cheap you buy twice. It is trued that most things that needs to be done to get a website ranking well is online, but there is nothing like a local SEO company or consultant with in dept knowledge of the environment and location you are operating to get your online marketing strategy right for you.
Using Local Glasgow SEO Company
The best decision any Glasgow based small business, looking to start or improve its search engine optimisation and search engine marketing reach can do it to use an Internet marketing Glasgow base SEO company or SEO consultant. Long Tailed Keywords and the Textual Content
June 15, 2009
What to Write
How do I know what to write about? How do I fill the pages of my website with
the useful and unique content that will keep my visitors coming back for more? If you
are selling products, then this might seem a moot topic to you, but pay
attention, this affects all who wish to retain loyal customers as well as bring new
visitors from the search engines.
Textual Content
Textual content is the written word. Textual content is one of the most important
aspects of website marketing. Textual content is like bait on a fishhook. You
wouldn’t throw an un-baited hook into the water and expect to catch anything.
you might get lucky and pull in some debris, but you likely won’t be catching that
trophy fish. The same is true for website content. It is very difficult to market a
website that has little or no textual content.
