When it come to technological innovations, web directories are not know for ground breaking ways to make finding websites on the Internet more accessible or even new ways to list and categories website to make them user friendly. The most authoritative Directory on the Internet; DMOZ is preoccupied with copping with new submission and staying online to play any pioneering role in the web directory industry.
The above said, what appears to be a new innovation in web directory industry is beginning to emerge in the form of a new generation of Web Directories called Bid for Placement directory.
Bid for placement Directories are usually not categorized like the traditional web directories i.e. a category for Internet, another category for Arts etc, but instead, bid for placement directories are usually arranged Alphabetically, with inclusions being placed under the alphabet that begins title of the link or its URL. Listings are then ordered based on how much the owner paid for the listing, for example a site called Temi.co.uk that pays $1, will be listed under category “T”, and another site was submitted with the name “Tangaya” and pays $3 for listing, this will then be placed above Temi.co.uk in the same category. Subsequent inclusion that pays more will be listed even higher and so on. Bid for placement are rapidly becoming popular with site owners bidding three figure sums for link placement.
