Battle of the smartphones – Google Nexus One vs. HTC Bravo

February 13, 2010 · Print This Article

Google’s new launched Nexus One, the “official” competitor for Apple’s iPhone seems to get into trouble even before becoming a new hit on the market. According to some leaked information, Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC is working on something big in terms of competition with Nexus One.

Codenamed Bravo, this future device developed by HTC seems to have some extra features over Nexus One, like better hardware and HD video recording, so the comparison will be an interesting one.

In terms of comparison, allow me to introduce a “comparison fact sheet” to see what are the hot points of this device over Google’s one. Keep in mind that HTC also designed the Nexus One, so not so much differences to be seen among those two devices.

What could be the pros for Bravo over Nexus One? Both look similar, so speaking about design it’s only the consumers’ choice. The Bravo features more physical buttons, an optical trackpad instead of a trackball, HD video recording and the hailed HTC Sense. Well, according to mobile to sources from mobile industry, it seems that the Bravo will feature a lower cost than Nexus One, a difference of $100 is expected. Another well-known problem for Google is that its product is being sold exclusively online, thing that will not be applicable to Bravo, which will face an offline selling campaign also.
The only problem for the HTC’s device is that, well, it hasn’t been launched until now, but rumors say will hit the UK market in late March, this year, after will be announced at Mobile World Congress. Will be an interesting competition to watch, both devices will become available in UK next month, so stay tuned for additional information on this.

Interesting “battle” to look for Temi.

My 2$ : Google’s Nexus One will be blasted by Bravo (if the leaked specs are true), can’t wait to see what happens next when both are released on the UK market.

I already have and iPhone so I will not be buying either of them but I look forward to what they look like. Personally, I still think iPhone is miles ahead of most other smartphones.

I’m undecided between these two phones. I like the hardware buttons, optical mouse and lower price of the Bravo but will the HTC-Sense UI affect what applications and widgets will work seamlessly with it? Will the Bravo have voice recognition? Will the Bravo have noise cancellation (something I think important)?

For me it’s a choice between hardware buttons and noise cancellation. If the Bravo gets the latter, I’ll jump on-board. If not, it’s the Nexus for me.

    SamS,
From what I have heard, HTC seem to have those two features you mentioned while NexusOne is already in the market, Bravo is not so unless you want to wait for a few months or so when Bravo will be released, you may want to jump on the Nexus bandwagon now.

Do you have any smart phones at present?

Me personally, I woudn’t jump into buying a Nexus One right now, I’d wait fot the Bravo to come out, who knows, if it’s too competitive for Google’s smartphone that could lead to a price cut-off in order to keep the step with competition.

It’s always the smartest thing to be patient and wait for the competitors to launch something new in the market, a couple of month later wouldn’t hurt nobody. :)

I sort of agree with you bogdan, you can get some fantastic bargain if you wait for it. Like the saying goes, good things come to those who wait :)

Temi, you are right, if you know to wait you can have a good price for the product you are interested in. I have hunt an iPhone for a long time, I have talk to friends, read reviews, ecc ecc and finally i bought an iPod Touch at a very very good price. I discover that an iPod Touch with wi-fi, it’s more that enough for me, having in mind that my phone it’s quite new and there was no need to change it.

Got something to say?
