Yahoo agrees ad deal with Google

The death of Microsoft interest in taking over Yahoo has lead to Yahoo to tie up a deal it has been negotiating with Google. The agreement will see Google’s advertising technology.
Google ads will appear alongside some Yahoo search results in the US and Canada.Recent talks concluded after Yahoo rejected a Microsoft proposal to buy just its online search business.

Up to £400 additional revenue
Yahoo said the agreement with Google could be worth up to £410m) in additional revenue annually for Yahoo. chairman and chief executive of Google, Eric Schmidt said”This commercial agreement provides Yahoo with the opportunity to deliver more relevant ads to users and provide advertisers and publishers with better advertising technology.

Will Russia get .rf domain extension?

Different interest groups are always calling for a new domain name extension, there has bee an long campaign by pornographers to .xxx , the Welsh for a .cymru , even Cornwall wants its own domain extension. Some of them have succeed, for example .cat for Catalonia region of Spain, .la for Los Angeles in USA.
The latest call for a domain name extension for a specific people or language comes from the new Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, who called for Russia to be assigned .rf domain extension (RF stands for Russian Federation), he does not want the .rf domain extension in English, but in Cyrillic.
Mr Medvedev is promoting Russian as a global language, he argued that 300 Million people worldwide uses Russian language media, having a .rf in Cyrillic will further help in raising the profile of Russian as a language used globally.

100 megabits per second Broadband on its way?

The Broadband Stakeholder Group recently released a  report which recommends upgrading UK Broadband infrastructure to deliver speed of up to 100 Mbps. This super fast Internet access is said to  bring significant benefit to UK businesses and home,  the benefit in financial terms, the report claimed could exceed £16bn.

Approximately  £16 billion is expected to be the cost of upgrade broadband infrastructure nationwide, economic benefit of the upgrade is not expected to filter back into the economy until  at least 80% of UK home have access to the new super fast broadband.

Antony Walker, head of the Broadband Stakeholder Group gave a rather interesting conclusion to the report, he is not recommending that the upgrades  starts right now, not does he want it to drag on, he was quoted as saying  “It is tempting to jump in feet-first, but it matters more to do this right than to do it now”.

Webmaster Forums such as UK Webmaster World, V7N, Site Point, Ozzu, Daniweb, Digital Point Webmaster Talk and other are know for facilitating discussion on various aspects of web development such as web hosting, domain name registration, web design, search engine marketing, web scripting and programming but the powerhouse of most webmaster forum is the Marketplace. This is were wembasters actually make money from buy, sell, exchange and trade in websites, advertisement, tools and even websites.
Webmasters Marketplace are usually the busiest section of forums, some forums such as Sitepoint are more famous for their marketplace than the SEO or other discussion. One of the things that make marketplace a success are the easy of use when compared with other ways of buying and selling small goods and services online, most webmaster markeplace are also free, do there is not buyer or seller premium on goods.

When offering items for sale, its is usually nice to give as much details about the item as possible, if it is an item needs a demo version, provide a link to where a working copy of the item you are trying to sell can be seen.
Not all webmasters are a fan of Marketplace, Zoltan Bagi, a webmaster with many years of experience using and moderating forums express concern “Webmaster Marketplace” are usually magnets for spammers.
Bagi’s observation is quite correct but spamming is not unique to marketplace, its a burden the entire world wide web is suffering from. Forum owner tends to have policy and mechanism inplace to reduce or eliminate spamming so that users of the Marketplace will have a pleasant experience.

Webmaster Marketplace Etiquettes

  • Post you offer in the right topic or thread for example if you are selling, post in the for sale section and if you want to buy, post in wanted section.
  • Create a new post for each items you want to sell especially if the items are completely different, for example if you are selling text link ad and website contents, do not start a thread on selling text link ads and then add that “by the way, I also have website contents for sale.
  • Respond to enquiry about your item promptly when potential buyers contact you.
  • If you are selling software or script, be prepared to prove ownership or evidence that you have reseller right for the software or script.
  • After a transition completion, leave a feedback for the other party, iTrader or other ways of leaving feedback are usually provided.

Carl Icahn – Yahoo sabotage Microsoft deal

Carl Icahn one of the most vocal of Yahoo shareholder has claimed the Yahoo board deliberately “sabotaged” Microsoft’s bid to buy the internet company.

Investor Carl Icahn claimed the board went to “inordinate lengths” to prevent the $47.5bn (£24bn) merger deal with Microsoft going ahead.

Mr Icahn has said he wants to remove the Yahoo board.
But Yahoo disagree with Mr Carl Icahn, saying that it did not agree to Microsoft takeover because it was not in the best interests of its shareholders.
