Interview with David DuVal PHPLD Creator by Temi Odurinde

PHP Link Directory, popularly know as PHPLD is a leading web directory script, it was created by David DuVal of NetCreated. Recently Temi Odurinde has been interviewing prominent players in the web directory industry, including webmasters, web directory operators and of course the people like David DuVal, who make creating a web directory easy with scripts such as PHPLD.
David answered all the sensible questions Temi Odurinde put to him (via email), being the ridiculous guy Temi is, after David DuVal answered all the sensible and serious questions such as issues about PHPLD, web directory and other stuff, Temi then put the “fun questions” David, silly questions such as “what you will do if you are the president of Cybeland” but David has a good sense of humour as he answered the fun questions

Temi Odurinde – If the Internet was to have a President and you were elected President of the net, what changes would you make on your first day in office?David DuVal – I don’t think I would accept that office. Too much stress.
Temi Odurinde – What are your top five favourite sites?
David DuVal – www.dance-forums.com, www.phplinkdirectory.com, www.youtube.com, www.digg.com, www.slashdot.com
Temi Odurinde – Take out your Crystal ball, give us a snap shot of how you see your segment of the online world evolving.
David DuVal – Larger directories will become portals like Yahoo. Yahoo started much like a base installation of phpLD.
Temi Odurinde – How many cups of coffee do you drink a day?
David DuVal – Only 2. That is all the caffeine I drink.
Temi Odurinde – What is your favourite Music?
David DuVal – Ballroom dance music, especially Waltz, Cha Cha, Foxtrot and Tango.
Temi Odurinde – Who or what do you find inspirational?
David DuVal – My grandfather who helped me get a more positive attitude during some trying times. In one letter he sent this:

T – Tolerance – people are different, but you have to be empathetic and try to understand what makes them the way they are
I – Integrity – you will encounter lots of people that took a “shortcut to success”, but over time it will be honesty that insures you live a successful and gratifying life.
G - Generosity – when you can give of yourself without focusing on the return, but just do it because you want to help, you will receive far more than you ever imagined, but it might not be exactly the way you thought it might be
E – Enthusiasm – it’s easy to have a good day, but it is the people that can find enthusiasm within them even during the downtimes that will be able to live life to the fullest
R - Respect – you can’t change everyone, but you can give respect to them. Just be alive comes with all kinds of stresses, and we should respect people, as well as be empathetic to the way they have learned to think about life and the World, by doing our best to understand them.
Interview with eSyndicat creator, Simon Gooffin

eSyndicat directory software is one of the most commonly used search engine friendly web directory software on the Internet today. Temi Odurinde Interviewed Simon Gooffin, eSyndicat directory software creator for UK Webmaster Forums. Excerpts from the interview follows:
Temi Odurinde: When you created eSyndicat, did you ever imagine it would be this successful?
Simon Goofin: At first I was not going to give it to the public but later when a first version was ready I thought it would be great to share it with other webmasters. Of course it was for free and we still have a free version. It does not meat it’s bad if it’s free. Our eSyndiCat Omega version is really great. We spent more than a year for its development and testing. I hope it will be #1 directory software among free scripts (to be honest I’m sure it will be ). Later I got many requests asking for new features and our members were ready to pay. So we started to develop Professional edition for our software. Here I already knew one thing – we must be #1 otherwise we should not even start. With this idea in my head we started to work.
Temi Odurinde: eSyndicate offer so much value, how did you manage to achieve this?
Simon Goofin:
Well, the answer is easy to understand. We use KISS approach. There are quite many people on the net who don’t have good knowledge of computers. It might be quite difficult for them to install plugins, modules, configure everything. That’s why we created a full-featured software that’s easily managed from one admin panel. We will also make new features and functionality in our next versions and it will be full featured by default. Now we are also working on our own modular system. We should offer something really great that’s out of just a simple niche – directory software. We have plans for making some custom packages like classifieds, etc. But this is another story.
Temi Odurinde: You offer unparallel support services, how are you able to offer this and still have such a competitively priced product?
Simon Goofin:
Now we have about 10 persons involved in eSyndiCat project development, support and testing. We will work even more to provide even better services. We know how important support is. It’s great to get fast and good help. We are also customers of some other companies like Jelsoft (vBulletin), Kayako and we’d like to get fast help. That’s the reason we try to offer the same.

Word Press Theme – Finally

I have been looking for Word Press theme to replace the current theme on this site that has served this blogs faithfully for a year or so now. After trawling the net for hours and hours without finding a skin I lived I got one custom made for me. The I am calling the theme finally, a screen shot can be seen above.
Word Press finally theme will be implemented on this site next week and it will be made available for others WP powered blogs to download and use.
There is a Word Press theme section at Webmaster Forums, there loads of free Word Press theme you can download and use there.
Technocrati changes ranking algo

Earlier this month, the most respected blogs engine online Technocrati changes the way it ranks blogs. First, it dropped the word “number of links to your blogs” and replaced it with the word “Authority” so blogs are now ranked according to “Authority” which is still based on the number of blogs that links to your website in the last 180 days.
In a blog explaining how the new “Authority” ranking works, Dorion Carroll wrote ”
It is important to note that we measure the number of blogs, rather than the number of links. So, if a blog links to your blog many times, it still only count as +1 toward your authority. Of course, new links mean the +1 will last another 180 days.”
