As if the plethora of ccTLD and TLD extension available on the Internet is not enough, a new Top Level Domain name extension;. mobi is to join .com, .co.uk and other domain name extensions before it.
.Mobi TLD was given approval by ICANN last year, is now going on sale to the general public from 26 September 2006. The first day of a domain name extension’s life, when it is first made available to the public is called landrush period by domain name registration companies.
Some of the arguments .mobi operator and its vendors are using to try and persuade us to register a .mobi domain extension as soon as possible goes as follows:
Mobile phones are selling four times faster than PCs, and 70% of mobile phones worldwide are already configured for Internet access. Take advantage of this rapid growth by offering .mobi, the only TLD dedicated to providing Internet content and services to mobile devices, and help your customers reach new audiences.
If you are planning to buy a .mobi domain name you better mark the landrush date in your calendar.
